ISIS fighters – war criminals in Europe
According to a Syrian underground network, many former ISIS members have arrived in Europe with an influx of refugees. Although IS fighters regularly provide evidence and testimonies to authorities, many of the suspects are still fugitives.
Journalists like Daham Alasaad or Ahmad Rahmadan fled Syria from the atrocities committed by ISIS and lost friends and family members. They are now demanding accountability of the perpetrators – but Syrian, Iraqi and European authorities have been reluctant to respond.
No exchange of information, almost no interest from the EU
There is no exchange of information between countries. That’s why ISIS hunters have taken the job of searching for ex-war criminals into their own hands. They work in Turkey and France, they have informants in Syria, they collect evidence and propaganda videos and record testimonies. But the result is depressing.
The EU doesn’t seem to care about the results. With the exception of the arrest of a senior ISIS soldier in Marseille, neither the judiciary nor the police are responding to indications that alleged war criminals are living in Germany.
The documentary accompanies Syrian journalist Daham Alasaad as he searches for traces of former ISIS members. Witnesses, victims and alleged perpetrators themselves have a say and paint a picture of a complex EU administration that doesn’t really know how to deal with jihadists.
